NCA Women’s Soccer: Record-Breaking Season!
“The Northside Christian Academy Lady Knights Soccer Program just completed one of the most successful seasons in school history. The Varsity team, in only their 2nd year “back in action” after reestablishing girl’s soccer at NCA in 2014, won the most games in school history (11). They also set records for most shutouts in a season (8), goals scored (42), assists (30), and goal-scorers (10). The Lady Knights also hosted the inaugural “Castle Cup” tournament, the first girl’s soccer tournament ever held at NCA. The team also had the biggest upset in program history, as they defeated the #4-ranked team in North Carolina, Davidson Day School, by a score of 1-0 in mid-March. The Middle School team also set several new records and were quite successful as well. In addition to the numerous team accolades and records, the Lady Knights also had several individual recognitions this season. The highest of which was Caroline Horne’s (Sr., Midfielder) selection to the MAC All-Conference Team. She is the first Girl’s Soccer player from NCA to receive this recognition in many years. Caroline was also one of 4 players selected to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association All-Region Team for Region 2 (Private Schools: Western NC). She joined teammates Olivia Ficklin (Jr., Goalkeeper), Alex Wright (Soph., Midfielder), and Kylie “Bug” Stinson (7th Grade, Forward) in being named to the Regional 2nd Team. Finally, Assistant Coach Jenny Thompson (a.k.a.: “Mrs. Coach”) was named the Region 2 Assistant Coach of the Year by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association. She was nominated for this award based on her 15 seasons of coaching at various levels, and for her commitment to serving as a positive mentor and role model to both our girl’s and guy’s soccer programs here at NCA. She will now be in the running for the State Assistant Coach of the Year Award along with the other Regional winners from across North Carolina. The NCSCA will announce the State winner on Monday, May 30th!”
We’d like to congratulate and commend the Lady Knights and the wonderful Coaching Staff for their incredible accolades from this past season! We’ve had a great year and we look forward to the fall and onto next season as well! Way to Go, Knights!
