The Unique Role of Athletics at Our Christian School
Dedicated to Christ. Dedicated to Excellence.
That is the motto for the athletics department at Northside Christian Academy. It reveals not only who we are, but also what the Northside family is all about. It reminds us of our commitment to Christ, and our calling to help shape young adults into faithful, confident Christians who bring the Gospel with them wherever they go.
As a leading private Christian school in Charlotte, N.C., we believe this motto is exemplified both on and off our teams’ courts, mats and athletic fields. After all, we view athletics as a means to an end – the same end that runs through every part of our school – the strengthening of our students’ Christian faith.
Northside’s athletic affiliation offers both a challenging opportunity for competition and many opportunities for our Knights to share the Gospel with student athletes across the state of North Carolina. We compete as 2A members in the Metrolina Athletic Conference (MAC), a strong conference within the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA).
Established in 1973, the NCISAA’s mission is “to encourage interscholastic competition among North Carolina independent schools that are committed to integrity, sportsmanship and fair play.” As one of many Christian schools in Charlotte, N.C., Northside recognizes the tremendous opportunity our coaches and athletes have to demonstrate what Christian integrity and Christian sportsmanship truly looks like.
The Knights field 20 different teams in all, competing in baseball, football, volleyball, softball, basketball, golf, soccer, track, and cross country. Our student athletes are committed to excellence in the classroom and beyond it, which is evident in our sports teams’ athletic development and success. In fact, this season alone, four members of our basketball team made commitments to play at Division I colleges and universities.
