Building Blocks to a Brighter Future
Preschool may look like it’s all fun and games, but in reality, serious work is taking place. Children are building a solid foundation for lifelong learning – and laying the groundwork for healthy development – physically, emotionally, academically and spiritually.
At our Christian preschool in Charlotte, N.C., we take the opportunity to teach God’s youngest children very seriously. Here’s how we work with our parents to ensure that preschool students are given everything they need to succeed in life, in learning and in Christ:
Setting Expectations, Making Connections
Experts know that attending a high-quality preschool increases a child’s readiness for kindergarten and helps them learn how the process of school works. Taking turns. Raising hands. Sharing. Each of these things is learned by spending time interacting with their peers and teachers. When we do this in an age-appropriate setting, incorporating play and social activities, children enter kindergarten ready for success and these experiences help build confidence and resiliency.
Additionally, children who have had some form of preschool before entering kindergarten have better social and behavior-management skills. As young as 2 years of age, children enjoy being a part of a community where they can take part in activities geared toward their developmental stage. Preparing for craft time, cleanup time and snack time gives children a sense of autonomy and a grasp of their place in the wider community. At Northside Christian Academy, we present ample opportunities for children to work in cooperative groups, increasing the feeling of community and sense of belonging.
In this safe, loving environment, children make connections with their peers and sharpen their social skills. Children also learn boundary setting and consequences by interacting with other children and by the loving examples set forth by their teachers.
Planting the Seed, Watching It Grow
In the past, kindergarten was the place to learn numbers, colors and ABCs. That is no longer the case. Today, the majority of children entering school have had some experience with preschool. Most kindergarten teachers expect students to come prepared with a basic knowledge of these academic skills.
At Northside Christian, one of the best preschools in Charlotte, N.C., we make learning fun – because that’s how children learn best. Developmentally appropriate toys, dress-up centers, colorful games and interactive play all work toward helping children grasp simple academic concepts to prepare for their first year of elementary school.
Young children are constantly learning and absorbing information from the world around them. That’s why this age is a wonderful time to introduce formal education – in an informal setting. Our staff is trained to understand the ways in which young children grow and develop so everything about our school is designed with them in mind. Bright colors, interesting centers and fun activities contribute to positive first experiences with academic concepts.
Growing in Life, Growing in Christ
From the time they were born, you’ve been sharing your Christian faith with your children. Bedtime prayers, Sunday school and talks about Jesus are some of the ways you’ve done that. Perhaps the best thing about preschool at Northside Christian School is that we share your values.
Here, we build on the spiritual foundation you’ve set for your children. Daily Bible time, prayer time and loving discipleship by our teachers all contribute to your child’s spiritual growth. It’s often been said that “values aren’t taught, they’re caught” and at our Charlotte, N.C., Christian preschool, teachers model Christian behavior that exposes children to the love and grace of Christ.
