Impacting Their World
At Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte, N.C., we recognize the value of a well-rounded education rooted in biblical truth. We are committed to providing a broad range of extracurricular activities for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. From athletics to fine arts, NCA students enjoy high quality programs that enrich the learning experience daily. But as a Christian school, we believe there’s a calling even greater than preparing rounded, college-ready graduates. As Northside students develop their skills and talents, we instill Christ’s love for others through service opportunities. Our ministries range from large student body events to small group projects. Each year, we see a passion for others that benefits graduates long after they leave our campus.
Here are a few ways that NCA builds Christian service into each student’s educational journey:
Learning from Positive Leaders
Our upper school students (grades 6-12) are each assigned to a faculty mentor group. The faculty leaders in this program serve as positive role models and Christian mentors, guiding their groups in various service projects. Every group completes at least one project that benefits the community outside regular school hours. As middle and high school students experience a season of significant growth and spiritual development, the rewards of this program are extraordinary. Beginning in ninth grade, students track their service hours. Many complete well over 200 hours while in high school and receive recognition at their graduation ceremony with a special cord. Their work is not only an impressive credential for prospective colleges, but also a significant investment in God’s kingdom.
Reaching Those Close to Home
A favorite school-wide service project is our holiday food drive – an opportunity to reach those less fortunate in the Charlotte community. All students, from kindergarten to grade twelve, bring in non-perishable food items throughout November. During our Thanksgiving chapel service, students pray over the food and give thanks for the blessings in their own lives. The food is then donated to local organizations who provide food for families suffering hard times. It’s one way that we can unite as a school to make a special season just a little bit brighter for others.
Sending Light Across Borders
Many NCA students participate in overseas and domestic missions. We provide opportunities for our high school students to go on mission trips that expose them to unique cultures, an important learning experience that puts faith into action. As students serve others, they share Christ’s love and grow in their own spiritual walk. Additionally, through projects like Operation Christmas Child, we build missions projects into life on campus. Each fall, students bring shoeboxes filled with gifts for children in poverty, donating their time and love to those in need.
