Technology Makes The Difference at NCA
Now more than ever, technology drives the learning experience from an early age. Educators have the unique task of presenting information in a way that is both relevant and engaging. At Northside Christian Academy, we don’t take this challenge lightly. Through mobile devices, we are changing the way we work and learn in the classroom. And much like they are used to connect socially, they are helping our students learn in a collaborative way. Read on to learn more about technology in the classroom and how it has positioned us as a top Christian school in Charlotte, N.C.
The Tech Advantage
Over the past few years, we have invested significantly in strengthening our technology infrastructure to include features such as wireless networking, interactive whiteboard devices and digital projectors. Our goal is a one-to-one learning environment for student from kindergarten through grade twelve. Currently, every student at Northside has access to an iPad, and students in grades nine and up can take theirs home each day. These tablets are powerful teaching tools, and are used in the following ways:
- Note taking in the classroom
- Research for assignments
- Presentation giving
- Homework completion
- Sharing and collaboration
- Reading and discovery
The Next Level
For students that are interested in advanced education in the field of technology, we are looking to implement a robotics program. Engineering is a growing and career field that is growing and thriving, and it is our privilege to meet the needs of students considering this path. Using the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curriculum, we will provide the tools for exploration and discovery. In fact, this month we will host Camp Invention on our Charlotte, N.C., campus. This hands-on learning opportunity will allow students to develop skills in the four STEM areas while making valuable contributions to our school community.
A Secure Community
With technology integration, we recognize that there are risks to be considered. As a Christian school, it is our responsibility to protect our students from the potential dangers of the Internet. We have strong firewalls in place and have taken extra measures to train our teachers on managing a classroom with extensive technology. All teachers can view the screens of each student on our network and a history of sites visited will be reviewed constantly. It is our priority to uphold best practices outlined by our accrediting bodies and partner institutions.
