Preparing for College: 5 Ways NCA Ensures Graduates Are Ready
Northside Christian Academy has grown into a leading college prep school for students in Charlotte, N.C. As college admission becomes an increasingly competitive process, we emphasize solid groundwork beginning in middle school. NCA faculty, staff and guidance counselors make it a priority to help every student achieve their goals – but furthermore, to ensure to ensure they are prepared to thrive at the university level. A commitment to college readiness and an unwavering focus on Christ-centered education delivers positive outcomes year after year. Read on to discover five ways that NCA ensures graduates are prepared for their next step.
Technology Integration
In college, students rely heavily on laptops and iPads for note taking, research, reading and presentations. NCA has a one-to-one learning environment, meaning each student has access to his or her own iPad. This enhances the classroom experience, but also encourage students to stay connected at home. Teaching with the tools of our generation has always been important to our faculty, and as a result, our students are stronger and more engaged.
College Exploration
It is our goal to expose students to as many colleges as possible, ultimately helping them select one that meets their spiritual, educational and career goals. By hosting college representatives on our campus, sponsoring campus tours and providing informational resources, we connect students with a wide range of schools. Upcoming events include:
- CAIS College Fair – Sept. 27
- Christian College Fair – Sept. 29
- Financial Aid Night – Jan. 15
Spiritual Emphasis
As a Christian college prep school, our curriculum is based upon the Bible and its teachings. First and foremost, it is our job to protect and strengthen students’ relationships with Christ, allowing them to grow into mature young adults. We accomplish this through serving as an extension of the student’s home and church. As a result, graduates have a strong foundation for the college years.
Valuable Partnerships
The NCA Guidance Department partners with each student, providing a full range of college preparation services. It is the department’s goal to reduce stress that often surrounds college admissions, and to equip students with tools to help them transition successfully into college. In ninth grade, students begin the NCA College Counseling Program, where they take part in educational workshops. In 12th grade the senior students are offered individualized counseling during the application season. Our college counselor also works with each parent on a personal basis, serving as a resource during this exciting (but often overwhelming) season of life.
Service Opportunities
NCA mission trips give students the opportunity to learn about diverse cultures while meeting the needs of others. These experiences are regarded highly among college admission boards, but their value extends far beyond. As students seek to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others, they experience discipleship and spiritual growth in their own lives. Additionally, they develop language skills and engage in hands-on learning.
