NCA K5 Impacting NASA’s Research?

Many of you may remember one of our posts from a couple of weeks ago regarding NASA’s research facility in Hawaii. You know, the one where the environment on planet Mars is being simulated inside a big dome (in the middle of paradise)? That’s the one! A contest was recently berthed to see who could come up with the best name for a beta fish that would be used in to gather research within the Mars simulation environment. Mrs. Heather Stoneham, one of our wonderful K5 teachers, has a class that came up with quite the suggestions for the fish’s name! The one which stood out the most, was of course, “Blastoff McRocketboots;” a name that would become one of the most favored among the names submitted to the survey.

Pictured to the left, you can see the fish’s living arrangements, which was taken and posted on NASA’s blog. Regarding “McRocketboots,” we have some fantastic news to share! The folks at the NASA training environment read the results from the official survey and “Blastoff McRocketboots” was the clear winner! Mrs. Stoneham’s class was extremely excited upon hearing the news, and as one can imagine, they are happy to get a little recognition for their creative efforts! We are extremely proud of these creative, intelligent K5 students and couldn’t be happier for their victory! This is just another example of how engaged learning can pay big dividends, even at the K5 level! Way to go, Mrs. Stoneham’s class!
