Teacher Spotlight: Dr. Sue Romano
Dr. Sue Romano Brings Language to Life
After 31 years of teaching in a Christian school setting, Dr. Sue Romano has honed her gift for leading students toward the Lord while helping them pursue excellence in all areas of academics. She teaches Spanish, ESL, and creative writing in our high school, and is passionate about showing young people the power of language.
The Importance of a Global Education
When students have teachers that are culturally minded, their understanding of the world is broadened. Dr. Romano explains, “I have always had a heart for language, writing, and various cultures, so my class schedule is a perfect fit for me!”
Fostering an appreciation for other cultures and imparting valuable language skills, she prepares students to thrive in the 21st century. This global education not only equips students for college and international travel, it instills in them an appreciation for diversity and unique cultures.
An Eternal Perspective
While college preparation is a primary goal for our high school students, NCA teachers make it their mission to prepare students for lives of Kingdom impact. Dr. Romano expands on this.
“My greatest hope is that my students will serve Christ and use their talents for Him. As a Spanish teacher, I also want my students to have opportunities to use their Spanish to communicate with others.
There is so much opportunity to witness to people in Central America and other Spanish-speaking countries across the world.
“I am looking forward to seeing some of them become missionaries in Spanish-speaking communities,” she explains.
The Rewards of Teaching
After decades of teaching in Christian schools, Dr. Romano believes that a well-balanced education that is also Christ-centered provides the best opportunities for students.
“NCA provides a loving environment for students to thrive and be the best they can be for Christ,” she said. “The academic program is rigorous, but practical.”
Working with other teachers who go beyond the textbook to equip students is one of the most rewarding things about Dr. Romano’s work.
