Project 1-2-1 includes the following:
* To begin the 2012-2013 school year, all 9th grade students will be using iPads to enhance their learning, engagement and organization. Each freshman will receive an iPad for their use in all classes.
* The school will make available several iPad labs for the use of students in grades K-12.
* Each 3rd-12th grade faculty member will receive a MacBook Air and our 9-12 grade teachers will also receive an iPad to begin their training and to research the best uses of this device in their individual classrooms.
The school chose iPads over laptops because of the design, efficiency, and mobility that the iPad offers. A compact, portable device is essential for students who are enrolled in a variety of classes that meet in different locations on campus. The touch screen on the iPad is also the perfect tool for kinesthetic learners, as many classroom lessons will include a hands-on activity via the iPad. Students can use the iPad camera with a corresponding app to collect observations, record details, and share with classmates. A plethora of free applications are available that cover essentially every subject area. The possibilities are endless.
The foundations of 21st century education include making the learning process engaging, collaborative, meaningful, and relevant. Northside Christian Academy recently added interactive white boards and is excited to integrate iPad use to the technology aspect of the well-rounded education provided at Northside.
As the school moves into subsequent phases of Project 1-2-1, more students will be given an iPad until each student at Northside has an iPad in their hands.
