A Global Education: The International Program at NCA
Research indicates that students flourish when immersed in a culturally diverse learning environment. As students interact with young people from different backgrounds, they begin to appreciate and respect differences while learning to function in a global society. As our nation becomes increasingly diverse and opportunities to travel and serve overseas abound, it has become more important than ever for students to learn and live in a global culture. In order to train successful students, we must expose them to an enriching, multicultural learning environment. This is where NCA’s International Program comes in, expanding horizons for our resident students as well as those from countries across the world.
Hosting Students in Homes
NCA offers a full-submersion international program for students from other countries. This means students not only attend classes on our campus, they live with an American host family as well. We have found this model to be incredibly successful, allowing international students to become fully immersed in American culture while receiving emotional support in a caring home environment. Of course, all host families are trained and receive ongoing support.
Sharing Cultures
We have hosted students from China, England, Honduras, Korea, Spain, Vietnam, and other countries around the globe. Baseline English skills are required, but we work closely with each student to ensure they develop their language abilities along the way. Learning in an American classroom and living with an American family is the fastest way for students to become proficient and prepared for college. Likewise, our resident students are prepared for future experiences, gaining cultural insight through their international peers.
Broadening Horizons
We celebrate the unique cultures in our school and the contributions of a diverse population. Our teachers have found that international students in the classroom broaden horizons and foster unity. This is incredibly valuable for high school students preparing for college. Learning to work with others from various backgrounds seamlessly is a vital part of being equipped for success in higher education, in careers, and in life.
Expanding Our Mission
In the spirit of our mission, we want to provide a biblically-based education to as many families as possible. We have the ability to extend that mission far beyond Charlotte, NC, reaching students from other cultures and impacting their lives through excellent academics and the Gospel message. Studying in America is highly beneficial, but studying in one of the nation’s most respected Christian schools builds vital foundations, preparing students who can — and do — change the world.
