Faculty Spotlight: Mrs. Moen, Fifth Grade Teacher
As an educator and mother of three, Mrs. Autumn Moen holds high standards for private, Christian education. When she and her family moved to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area five years ago, Northside Christian Academy was the obvious choice for her children, but turned out to be a great fit for her teaching career as well. She has been a member of our faculty for more than three years and continues to bring learning to life for fifth grade students. If you are looking for a Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle school, you’ve come to the right place. Read on to learn more about the Northside experience through the voice of our very own, Mrs. Autumn Moen!
Finding Her Fit
I first chose NCA for my three children after examining the curriculum, academic standards and Christian mission. We looked at a lot of Christian schools for our boys, but NCA was undoubtedly the best fit. I loved it so much and quickly knew that I would want to be a part of the staff.
Joining The Family
As a member of the NCA faculty, I know that my fellow staff are praying for me daily. We are constantly lifting others up, including our students. At NCA, people truly take care of each other as family – whether the needs are physical, emotional or spiritual. It is beneficial to have co-educators who you can trust. When I need advice, I have resources that I can go to for sound advice and valuable feedback.
Keeping Standards High
At NCA, the academic standards are high. As an educator, I can rest assured that my own children are being prepared for college daily. But any school can have high academic standards. At NCA, personal standards are high we well. As a result, we hold students to a higher standard, encouraging them to move toward their biggest goals.
Building Relationships
The NCA difference is truly in relationships. Our students can see that their teachers care about them and love them, but at the same time, we hold them accountable. At the fifth grade level, they are deciding whether or not they are going to participate in class. It is a critical age, and the relationships students have with the person at the front of the room can make or break the learning experience. That’s the most rewarding part about my job – building those relationships that encourage students to engage.
Running Toward Success
Every Friday, NCA fifth graders run the mile. They usually start out hating it, but I use it as an opportunity to further develop those relationships and encourage them. As a runner, I coach them on consistency and help them see that they can do it and improve on their time. Along the way, I get to have those one-on-one conversations and learn about their unique goals. It is a great opportunity to build trust outside the classroom environment.
