Knights Track and Field Show Up Big In State Championships!
Good afternoon, NCA Families! We have some exciting news to report from this past weekend! On Friday, your NCA Knights Track & Field traveled to Raleigh to compete in the NCISAA 1A/2A Combined State Championships! Despite being heavily outnumbered, our Knights came ready to compete! Take a moment to read the following meet report from your very own, Coach Brooks!
“The NCA men’s and women’s track and field teams represented our school well this past weekend at the State Championships in Raleigh. Our teams’ performances produced 14 individual and/or relay personal records. Some of these performances produced four new school records:
4×800 m relay – Lauren Hollins, Emily Holmes, Sanaa McClendan, Jessa Maynard
4×400 m relay – Dejah Washington, Onesti Barnett, Sanaa McClendan, Jonica Lockhart
Triple Jump – Teya Jones
Shot Put – Tyshawn Miller
Our event state champions are:
Triple Jump – Teya Jones (34′ 2.5″)
Shot Put – Tyshawn Miller (46′ 3.5″)
4×100 m relay – Melonie Mallette, Teya Jones, Dejah Washington, Jonica Lockhart (53.19)In addition to our gold medal winners, we had the following medalists in these events:
Onesti Barnett – silver in the 400 meters and bronze in the 200 meters
Melonie Mallette – silver in the 100 m hurdles
Chan Park, Tanner Tally, Malachi Rennix, Marco Taylor – bronze in the 4×100 m relayOut of 38 schools participating, NCA girls were 4th and the boys were 10th. The Knights finished well and had a very good season!”
We’d like to echo Coach’s sentiment and congratulate the Knights on an incredible season! They were highly competitive all season and we couldn’t contain how excited we were watching them compete! Way to go, Knights!
