NCA Makes NC Honors Chorus!
The following press release is a very exciting piece of news regarding one of our very own, Ms. Hannah-Ashland McCord, ’15!
North Carolina Honors Chorus 2014—Hannah-Ashland McCord Selected from over 1,000 students who auditioned, NCA Senior, Hannah-Ashland McCord (’15), performed in the 175-voice NCMEA High School Honors Chorus concert on Sunday, November 9. The Honors Chorus is widely recognized as the most exclusive, audition-only high school choir in the state. The weekend-long event included exclusive training in vocal technique and choral artistry. Dr. Rosaphayne Dunn Powell, professor of voice at Auburn University conducted the concert. Dr. Powell provided great insight into the vocal interpretation and aesthetic expression of each of the challenging, college-level pieces. NCMEA (The North Carolina Music Educators’ Association) also commissioned Dr. Powell to compose a new piece, The Lord is My Light and My Salvation, for the concert. Students in the Honors Chorus were the first musicians ever to perform the work. Hannah’s experience marks her as one of the best high school singers in the state of North Carolina, and it places her on a competitive platform for college music schools. Hannah was joined at the event by NCA Choral Director and 2008 NC Honors Chorus member, Mr. Taylor Nelson (’09). We are very proud and excited about all that Hannah has accomplished. Join us in congratulating her! Way to go, Hannah!
