NCA Soccer; Recognition In NCSCA!
We have more exciting news from our athletics department! Certainly, as the school year winds down into May, we begin to see that Spring sports are wrapping up for the year before Fall sports training begins over the Summer. This signifies the time when teams receive honors and accolades or go quietly into the sunset, prepping and planning for the next season. This year, after our women’s Soccer program wrapped its season up, committees gathered and officials met and, as it turns out, our gals received some rather exciting news!
The NCSCA (North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association) met earlier this week to discuss the 2015 season and also to consider nominees for awards and recognition. The meeting took place in Statesville and was restricted to region two, which covers the Western half of the state of North Carolina, and includes all private and independent schools, including Providence Day and Charlotte Latin. The Association chooses two teams, first and second, and each team has eleven players to fill the roster. Three of our student-athletes were chosen, out of many players, to receive special honors and accolades! These three athletes, all part of our women’s varsity program were selected to the All-NCSCA 2nd team. Our members chosen were:
Caroline Horne
Christiana McLean
Alexis Wright.
Aside from having three players chosen as second team members, we also had two players receive honorable mentions:
Olivia Ficklin
Bailey Stinson
Additionally, Coach Corey Thompson was voted Regional Coach of The Year for region two for the NCSCA! Along with his honors, Coach Thompson would like to thank and acknowledge his staff and assistant coaches for all of their support and hard work. We are very proud of these young ladies for all their hard work and persistence this year and would like to congratulate them on their accomplishments! Way to go ladies – and Coach Thompson!
