NCA’S DAVID NELSON – WINNER OF FSI TEACHER OF THE WEEK!
Today marked an exciting day not only for Northside Christian Academy’s academics, but also for one remarkable teacher! If readers will recall, Mr. David Nelson (U.S. History / Government & Economics) was entered into a contest, sponsored by FSI (the official office supplier of the Carolina Panthers) to highlight and honor one extraordinary teacher in the greater Charlotte area. Among many entries, Mr. Nelson was chosen as a finalist amidst much celebration – and then, it seemed that silence ensued. For a short while at least.
The so-called-silence was nothing more than the tense period of voting moments – and was promptly broken today when we received the news. This news was something that we fully expected, but still hit us as a very pleasant surprise: Mr. Nelson was the winner! For more than 20 years, Mr. Nelson has faithfully served and instructed students at Northside in the areas of U.S. History, Government and Economic – all the while making significant impacts in each students’ lives. From repetitions of significant dates in history, to dressing in full character regalia, to leading trips to local government buildings and even Washington, D.C., Mr. Nelson has brought History and Government alive in the hearts and minds of many students, past and present!
Mr. Nelson is fully deserving of this award (and even beyond); however, in true Mr. Nelson fashion, he will probably never mention anything that might bring any special attention to himself. He’d rather deflect the award to a great group of students, staff and friends – really anything he’s deemed his “support group.” Undisputedly, Mr. Nelson is one of the greats in the Charlotte area when it comes to History, Government and Economics – and of course, most of all, loving and serving his students in the only way he knows how – with everything he’s got! Today, we can only say “Congratulations and Well-Deserved!”
