NCA’s Thompson Named NCSCA Coach Of The Year!
The men’s and women’s soccer programs here at NCA have been going through a period of transition and rebuilding. There have been some exciting and frustrating times, as all programs experience, but two things have remained constant: unyielding passion for the sport and care for the players that Coach Corey Thompson has demonstrated.
This past week, the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association continued deliberations regarding top players in the state to be recognized – as well as supporting players. They have also been discussing recognition for coaches throughout the state, and accordingly, the top programs. While there are many high-caliber and elite soccer programs in the state of North Carolina to be considered, there are one or two factors that rarely have anything to do with wins or losses: character and demonstration of a coach’s ability to teach his or her athletes.
For these reasons alone, the NCSCA has proudly and happily recognized NCA’s Coach Corey Thompson, Dean of Student Affairs and men’s and women’s Head Soccer Coach – as the NCSCA Coach of the Year! Coach Thompson has indeed proven to be knowledgable in the game of soccer, but most importantly, he takes the time to not only teach his players, but also to invest in their lives. Because of this, undoubtedly, current and former players can be certain that he truly cares about them and their futures.
A 1994 graduate of NCA, Coach Thompson has returned to his roots and has truly enjoyed giving back to the school that invested so much into him. A testament to his humility, Coach Thompson, upon receiving the award, exclaimed: “I’ve never been as shocked as I was when I received notification of this award!” Quickly, he has deflected the attention, happily sharing this distinction with his coaching staff and teams.
We are proud of Coach Thompson and his commitment to NCA Soccer – and we are excited to see what our programs accomplish in the coming years! Way to go, Coach!
