Teacher of The Week at NCA!
It’s time for teacher recognition Wednesday! We are very proud to present Mr. Taylor Nelson, our Choral Director, as our teacher of the week for this week! Taylor is in his first year here at NCA and has been instructing our chorus students from each level in the school – talk about busy (but he loves every second of it)! Mr. Taylor Nelson is very pleased to be in a perpetual state of homecoming, as he is an alumnus of NCA and returned after having completed his studies at Cedarville University! He was born and raised here in Charlotte; Ohio is the only other place he’s lived (while attending college) and felt called to come back to the Charlotte area. He is the son of Mr. David (Sr. High History) and Sheila Nelson (Secondary Principal), so naturally, teaching is hard coded into his DNA! Several factors played a part in Mr. Nelson deciding to pursue a life in teaching; namely as a senior in high school where he realized how valuable it is to have the opportunity to impact lives. The other notable influence was the opportunity to work with Fine Arts Director, Mrs. Susan Renstrom, as he wanted to benefit from her wisdom in the classroom! His favorite moments as a teacher are the “ah-ha” moments that take place once a student has worked hard to master a vocal concept and in turn successfully performs it! Mr. Nelson truly has a heart for his students and it is very noticeable – he truly works hard at ensuring that his students are receiving quality instruction and that they are fully grasping the techniques and materials! Some of Mr. Nelson’s musical influences include: Jimmy Needham, J.S. Bach, and Professors Lyle Anderson and Sandra Yang at Cedarville University. When away from rehearsals and instructing, Mr. Nelson enjoys reading, traveling and practicing his Spanish at Monterrey Mexican Restaurant. Another interesting fact about Mr. Nelson is that he wishes to visit every continent on earth – as this is part of his bucket list! He very much enjoys being able to work closely with family and also the opportunity to teach his sister, Tori! As much as he enjoys this, we even more so enjoy the fact that he is here instructing our young students – he’s carrying on the tradition of great instruction, coupled with an effective knack for reaching through to students! For this, we are excited and grateful! Hit the “LIKE” key if you’ll appreciate Mr. Taylor Nelson with us! Thank you Mr. Nelson for everything you do!
